Wigs were created a long time ago. The word ‘wig’ is a shortened term derived from ‘periwig’, another term used around 1675. Wigs have been used in ancient times for many reasons. Among the reasons wigs have been used in times gone by were: to protect the head, part of traditional costume and even for better portrayal of a character in the theatre. Royalty also used wigs in ancient times. Queen Elizabeth I is the pioneer for the use of wigs, as she was popularly known to wear red hair wigs in Roman styles. King Louis the 13th pioneered the men’s wig- wearing tradition.
Today, wigs are used as part of fashion and style. Hair wigs are used on daily basis, as wigs are easily changeable and easily styled to perfection. Wigs are the best solution when it comes to disguises for hair loss patients. Some people experience bad hair loss that causes them to be bald at a very young age. To solve this problem, they can use wigs to cover up their baldness. People undergoing medical treatment also use wigs to hide their baldness, and to make themselves feel better both during treatment and afterwards while their own hair grows back.
Wigs are also used by celebrities. The reason is because they can use different hairstyles everyday, without having to change their real hair everyday. For example, they can have long hair today, short hair tomorrow and perhaps curly hair for the next day. It is easy for them to style their hair according to the needs and occasions by wearing wigs. Cher is a well-known celebrity for using wigs - she has quite the collection and uses them frequently.
The procedure for making wigs starts with the measurement of head size. Then, the framework, hair preparation, ventilation, styling and fitting take place. Each of the steps are very important, to make sure that the wigs produced are high in quality and suitable for everyone. After each wig is successfully produced, they are ready to be marketed.
