Hair Styling - Now and Then

In days of yore, great grandmothers of yours and ours invested in maintaining their hair, as doing it on their own and hair styling was quite a tiresome ordeal. One had to go through the rigors of washing the hair and then conditioning it. After that, hair had to set beautifully in custom rollers in order to give it the quintessential curl. Hair styling could even take an entire night depending on how dense the hair grew. From here originated the cartoon caricature of the woman with her head full of rollers.

Technology soon came to the modern woman’s rescue by smothering her with appliances for hair styling. These appliances made taming your own hair less cumbersome and hair styling more expedient. Bonnet driers, especially the ones which were portable, were the first of such boons to women kind who were as ever interested in hair styling. Long legged models modeling the roller set conveniently fitted under the bonnet; with a shoulder strap it is indeed a quaint memory. The convenience of it all was aptly depicted by the hairdryer that clung to one of her shoulders with a neat trail of the power cable behind as she conveniently made her way around the set using her vacuum cleaner.
Then was the turn of the blow dryer, the curling iron and then, the hot rollers. Drying the longest of long hairs in unbeatable time and giving the fashionistas their blown back, wind kissed looks, the blow dryer made its mark as a boon sublime to the world of hair styling. Time, the servant of none, was at last made to bow to the hair styling wonders of the curling iron and the hot rollers as they went about giving many a curl, that fine finish in record time.

As all things do, hair styling wonders too reached a fine circle when straight styles and sleek looks became the in thing. Flat irons claimed the spotlight. The ordeals of hair styling, curling and twisting were finally over. The women literally let their hair loose.

The modern technology related to hair styling has of course given the bad hair day a goodbye wave. Convenient as they are, they need to be used with care as they can easily damage hair if they are not handled properly, leading to mishaps. Most people who try to use these at whom with no initial instruction tend to destroy their hair not because of the incompetent products but due to their own ignorance of how to use it rightly.
